MARMADUKE LEARNS TO SING
Since he was a little pup, Marmaduke has claimed a squeaky toy as his own personal musical accompaniment. He squeaks and sings a most mournful tune, using his whole body to produce the sound.
We lost the toy in an autumn sweep of leaves, and he was bereft without it. We tried to replace it with any number of substitute squeaky toys that had similar shapes, tones and even found a replica – but it was not his toy! For months, he kept looking for it.
Then one day we found it in the compost – which is how we knew where it had gone and when! Now he makes sure he takes it with him wherever he goes – even to bed. If we forget to load it in when traveling, we have one very unhappy pup!
Three and a half years on and after much serenading, the toy is quite worn, and much more difficult to get the same quality tune out of the squeaker! But today when I played the video of him as a little pup, he instantly broke into song! He couldn’t help himself. It seems that he just has to sing when he hears those tones.
